There is nothing nicer than sitting together with friends all bundled up in a lawn chair in the middle of the Icelandic summer night and just watching the sunset/sunrise that goes on for hours without end.

Great timing on this picture. This is the Öxarárfoss (E. Axe River Fall) in the Þingvellir National Park. Legend has it and I don’t know if it has been confirmed or if it is plausible, that the river was directed into the fissure. This would have brought lots of fresh water to the ancient parliament fields where Iceland’s parliament was formed in the year 930. If it is true, then that made those ancient guys very good landscape artists.

“I passed a perfect grassy farm filled with perfect Icelandic horses. They are all super hairy and very friendly. The horses have no fear of humans or elves. So I walked right into a group of them and started taking photos. I waited a bit until this fine horse got into position with the setting sun just behind him.”

Highway 1 or the Ring Road is the 1.339 kilometers of highway that circle Iceland along the coast linking nearly every Icelandic town together. The most typical one or two week holiday includes one circle along the ring road, getting a pretty good sampler of Iceland. Mind you it is only a sampler and there is plenty you will miss including the beautiful Vestfirðir (en Westfjords), the large peninsula in the northwest corner of Iceland.
