Halldór Helgason

Halldór HelgasonEven if this crash compilation might not indicate it, Halldór is currently Iceland’s brightest sports star. He won a gold at the 2010 Winter X Games and has a good chance this year.

Currently he is in the finals in an online voting competition on ESPN Winter X Games. He is head to head against, Louis-Felix Paradis after previous rounds and needs your vote to win. Check out the two riders’ videos and I’m sure you’ll be convinced that Halldór is the man.

Nikita - “For Girls Who Ride”

If you are interested in snowboarding, fashion, Iceland, entrepreneurship and remodeling check out this video. It’s about the very successful Icelandic startup, Nikita. It is a leading company in snowboarding clothing for “girls who ride”. They now have stores worldwide now and Heiða one of the founders just received an award for female entrepreneurship. This video shows how it all started in downtown Reykjavík a decade ago.

The Icelandic media may be busy complaining that the Icelandic handball team “only” made it to 6th place in the Handball World Cup (pretty good for a tiny country), but meanwhile other victories get less attention. Snowboarding Magazine’s 2010 Rookie of the Year, X Games Big Air Gold Medalist, Halldór Helgason just beat Shaun White (yeah you know the one featured on 60 Minutes and every major snowboarding publicity stunt) in the X Games Slopestyle finals.
Check out his and his snowboarding brother’s website www.helgasons.com.
