imstillpablo asked: Hey, is there any place to take any sort of photography course? Even if its semi-professional

There are a few yes.

These are Iceland tours which combine photography:

Daniel Bergmann

Photo Expeditions

Tatra (full trip from London)

Focus on Nature (This one looks best to me as it is guided by one of Iceland’s best nature photographers)

Ljósmyndari.is has plenty of courses aimed at Icelanders.

You might actually be able to get the best answer by asking at the forum on ljosmyndakeppni.is. Just use google translate to register and then ask your question in English. I’m sure you’ll get lots of helpful responses. It is the most active photography forum in Iceland.

solinni asked: Hi~ I have been planning to go to Iceland (or Norway) as an exchange student. I study fine arts in Saimaa University of Applied Sciences in Finland and our school doesn’t have any affiliate programs with any Icelandic school. So do you know if there is any university-level art school that teaches photography in Iceland? I have been trying to look for art school myself, but all art schools I have found either don’t really teach photography or don’t accept exchange students.

Listaháskóli Íslands is the only school that teaches arts at a university level. However I don’t think they have photography as a specific path although I’m sure they have courses and use it as a medium. From what I hear, it is quite difficult to get in, but it’s often easier to get in via exchange programs.

Ljósmyndaskólinn is a private school which teaches photography. I believe it graduates people with a “sveinspróf” in photography, meaning they have the professional title of photographer.

Sorry for the late response.

Icelandic Blue Glacier Ice Cave
This breathtaking picture by Örvar Atli was featured by one of my favorite blogs, My Modern Met. Örvar and his friend Skarpi have been busy capturing unique photos of Iceland from a mountaineer’s perspective. Their photos from inside this ice cave are a perfect example. You might also want to check out Skarpi’s photo from the ice cave.
I’ve worked a lot on glaciers and I can tell you that the caves are truly this amazing. The crystal clear blue ice is like nothing else. However, I’m glad to quote Örvar when he says: “Because of a recent accident in Iceland where a young amateur photographer died on a glacier I will not give details of this caves location. If you want to visit this place contact a local mountain guide.” There have been three perfectly avoidable glacier accidents in Iceland this year. Two of these had to do with glacier ice caves such as these and third happened on a glacier. With local knowledge and a mountain guide from fx. Icelandic Mountain Guides or Öræfaferðir, these accidents could have been avoided. The fact is that ice caves regularly collapse and glacier travel requires special skills.
For a few other ice cave photos, check out this ice cave which collapsed, this hypnotizingly blue ice tunnel and this ice cave large enough to park your truck in. Also you might check out Skarpi’s Professional photo page and Örvar’s Arctic Photos.

Þingvellir National Park, just outside Reykjavík is a beautiful place in the fall. The yellowing leaves in the foreground are blueberry.
