Anonymous asked: do you know of a place to ride horses for a few days ?

Iceland is famous for the Icelandic horses and an Icelandic horse is a great way to discover Iceland’s nature.

Around Reykjavík there are a bunch of companies offering horse riding tours. These are generally short day tours and I’ve met plenty of people who unfortunately are not totally content, especially people with some riding experience. However, the further you go from Reykjavík the more “original” the horse tours. So if you are looking for single day horse tours and you are travelling around Iceland, try and stop by at some local farm that offers tours on a small scale.

Hópið horse riding tourFor longer tours I have to admit I don’t have much experience. I have however heard a very convincing story from an agent of Íshestar about their tour around Hópið. It is a five day tour in Húnafjörður in northern Iceland. It involves plenty of black sand beaches, swimming and wading. Apparently the most awesome part is sprinting across flat black sands, covered with a thin flat layer of water. It appears as if one is galloping (or if you are good you can do skeið) across a black marble surface.

Good luck!

If the picture I recently posted was the album cover of an all horse rock band, then what kind of music would this stallion represent?

Icelandic horses in full winter fur. Oh and they are not ponies as reddit thinks.

cyanea asked: Hi! My uncle is from Iceland, where his family owns a riding tour business, and for Christmas I want to surprise him by making an Icelandic horse for him (I make art out of paper collages). I was wondering whether you could post some pictures of Icelandic horses, especially pictures that show details of the face. I already saved most of your pictures from this tumblog to use as models. Thank you so much!

That’s interesting. You should be able to find all the pictures I’ve posted of horses under the tag “Icelandic horse”. Perhaps to make it clear that it is an Icelandic horse, you could make it wear a lopapeysa.

Icelandic Horses on Times Square
Goodmorning America started the day with a the host sitting on Icelandic horses on Times Square in New York. The horses, Klerkur (E. Clergy) and Dagfari (E. Dayfarer), were probably a little surprised seeing so many people and billboards. The shot was a promotion for a TV series, Born to Explore. Two of the shows were filmed in Iceland this fall. You can catch the first one on ABS tomorrow and the second one on the 4th of February.

“I passed a perfect grassy farm filled with perfect Icelandic horses. They are all super hairy and very friendly. The horses have no fear of humans or elves. So I walked right into a group of them and started taking photos. I waited a bit until this fine horse got into position with the setting sun just behind him.”
