Oh how I wish I was in Iceland right now, I’d have jumped from this helicopter with my friends yesterday.

This is Flugbjörgunarsveitin í Reykjavík (E. Reykjavík Air Ground Search and Rescue) on a training mission, skydiving from The Icelandic Coast Guard’s Super Puma helicopter. You can see them take off from Reykjavík Airport, fly over part of the city and the jumpers exit just above Sandskeið, a small grass airfield just outside Reykjavík.

Video is filmed by Matti.

Great video filmed during a practice mission on a Super Puma helicopter with the Icelandic Coast Guard. I’ve been lucky enough to fly with them a few times and the scenery you see from a helicopter in Iceland is pretty amazing.

If you are fortunate enough not to need a rescue from the Coast Guard but would like to see Iceland from above you can check out The Helicopter Service of Iceland or Norðurflug. Awesome tours if you are going all out on your Iceland trip.

Great video of a helicopter flight up close and personal with the Eyjafjallajökull eruption last spring.

To think I’ve calmly skied across the formerly flat snow and ice of this glacier is a bit mind boggling. Now most of there is a huge hole in the middle of the glacier where this crater has melted its way through. At the bottom of the crater resides boiling lake. Most of the glacier is covered in a layer of up to 30 meters of black ash, so no skiing anytime soon.
