Iceland in Pictures

Look at all those layers of ash and grit in these icebergs out on the Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon. If you look closely you see a little dingy sailing at the base to give you scale to these giants.

When ice has not been exposed to sunlight it is crystal clear and blue like this. After being out in the sun for half an hour however it becomes crusty and appears white like the ice at the top of the picture. Lessons of a glacier guide.

Jökulsárlón is a lagoon full of ice that calves off from Breiðamerkurjökull Glacier. The ice then floats out of the lagoon and into the ocean often washing back onto shore as this ice berg has.
