Krummi “ bird hanger.

Icelandic designer Ingibjorg Hanna Bjarnadottir has captured a well deserved attention for her design of the Krummi bird hanger.

Krummi means raven in Icelandic and a raven will often steel shiny objects for its nest. Therefore the idea behind the coat hanger is to display our “shiny” clothes instead of hiding them away in a closet. The raven has more positive connotations in Icelandic folklore than in many countries. Ravens, for instance, discovered Iceland for Hrafna-Floki, a Viking who set free two ravens to find land. In Norse mythology Odinn has two ravens called Huginn and Muninn. They travel around the world each day and at night they sit on Odinn´s shoulder and tell him what they have seen and heard. Thus Odinn knows everything that happens in the world. The raven often appears is Icelandic children stories and is usually depicted as a wise bird.
