Seljalandsfoss waterfall blowing in the wind
I’ve posted many pictures of Seljalandsfoss before, but you’ve never seen it like this. Yesterday it was so windy in Iceland, that the wind tore asphalt off the roads. It was also windy enough that the famous Seljalandsfoss waterfall, which you can usually walk behind, didn’t even reach the ground. The water was blown back up by the wind. We actually often see this happen with nearby smaller waterfalls, but Seljalandsfoss is much too powerful for this to happen normally.

Seljalandsfoss. There are countless magnificent waterfalls in Iceland, but this is one of the most popular. The reason is, it is so easy to walk behind it.

This swing set is right by the old farm next to the famous Seljalandsfoss waterfall. Although Seljalandsfoss is today one of Iceland’s most popular tourist destinations, it is not that long since the area around it was just a farm field. The farmer would drive around it in his tractor perhaps taking a glimpse towards the waterfall every once in a while. I’m pretty sure the swing set is older than tourism at Seljalandsfoss. I actually do have one picture of the waterfall (in pink…) from before many visited it.

You have all seen pictures of Seljalandsfoss
But you probably have never seen it pink. This was done by a few friends who will remain anonymous a couple of decades ago. They through in 2 liters of red food coloring to get this effect. No Photoshop.

Yet another picture of Seljalandsfoss. Always beautiful and never the same from any angle.

Seljalandsfoss waterfall is an awesome place. I know there are way too many pictures circling the web of this waterfall. But it is truly a photographers dream.
I’ve been to this place dozens if not hundreds of times guiding tours such as Ice and Fire for Icelandic Mountain Guides but it always pulls me out of the car to walk one circle around it. Always beautiful and never quite the same.
A quick google search will come up with countless awesome photos of this waterfall.
