Quite a while ago I decided I’d have to climb this mountain. It is one of the coolest looking mountains in Iceland. It’s name is Einhyrningur (Unicorn) and is located by the Markarfljót river between Þórsmörk and Tindfjöll. Photo by Sverrir Thor.

This is one of the greatest Icelandic rock climbs. It’s not very difficult to climb but it is rotten rock and it’s a 10 hour hike to get there. You can see some climbers in the middle of the cliff if you look closely.

Wow this is a great picture. Kirkjufell mountain has only recently been discovered by photographers. So many awesome pictures of this mountain from various angles have appeared recently.
The mountain is just outside the town of Grundarfjörður on the Snæfellsnes peninsula on the west coast of Iceland. You can climb it if you are interested. The mountain is comprised of countless steps that you have to overcome. Each steep section is between a meter and a few meters high but some ropes have been strategically placed to help hikers out. Just be very careful and avoid it when it is wet. If you don’t want to climb the mountain you can just relax in the pool in Grundarfjörður.

Kirkjufell is a really great hike if you are out on the beautiful Snæfellsnes peninsula in west Iceland right by the town of Grundarfjörður. The hike is not for everyone as there is some scrambling involved.
