irene-adler-in-the-tardis asked: Halló! I've a doubt. Iceland is part of the European Union or not? I know that Iceland is part of Europe, but not all countries of Europe are part of the Union, so this question always make me confused. Thank you.
Iceland is a European country, but is not part of the European Union. Iceland is however a part of EFTA and the European Economic Area (EEA) which is like having a foot in the door of the EU.
Iceland has also applied for membership in the EU. This is still a major political debate in Iceland. Because even though we have applied, once the current government has negotiated the terms, there will be a national referendum. Currently the country is split on this and the eventual result will depend on the referendum. The big question is how much control of our fisheries we will be able to maintain.
